Baby showers.
Baby showers are currently taking the UK by storm as more and more mothers-to-be choose to celebrate their news with friends and family.
Baby Showers can be as simple or as elaborate as you want them to be, Babycakes Ltd wants to make sure that every second of your Baby Shower is just as you want it so we have put together a quick glance list of essentials for you:
Invitations:
Send these out a month before the party is going to happen, this is normally 2 months before babies due date or if it is for a colleague on their last afternoon.
Decorations:
Balloons, streamers, paper plates, cups etc can give the party a traditional or modern feel to the shower – you can even theme the shower. Using paper plates and cups making clearing up easier to!
Food & Drink:
Traditionally this is finger food or afternoon tea, but there is nothing to say you can’t have vegetable sushi and alcohol free Pimms/Champagne or go to your favourite restaurant. Cupcakes are a nice idea and can be themed – we use: The Bespoke Cupcake Company
Centre Piece:
It is a good idea to have a centre piece on the main food or present table – Babycakes suggests a Nappy Cake for this (just make sure your guests know it’s not edible!)
Games:
Baby Shower games can be loads of fun – we have listed our top 5 for you below:
- Bottle Guess Mummy’s Tummy Size – (string & scissors needed). Each guest cuts string to the length that they thing will wrap around Mum’s tummy, once everyone has guessed they are then wrapped around Mum’s tummy and the closest length wins!
- Race – (baby bottles & milk). Have each guest take a full baby bottle and they have to drink in the same way a baby would – they get 30 seconds, the guest who has drank the most wins.
- Guess The Baby Picture – Prior to the shower ask guests to bring their baby photo in an envelope, when they arrive ask them to give them to a designated guest who can display the pictures – the get guessing!
- Pass The Dirty Nappy – (nappies & 5 different chocolate bars). The host will fill the nappy with different chocolates and melt – then it is up to the guests to match the chocolate filled nappy to the wrapper!
- Baby Alphabet Game – Aim of the game, simply to get one baby related word for every letter of the alphabet!
Memory Book:
This is a day that Mum will remember for a long time and will want to share with her new baby & family – why not get a memory book with blank pages and get each guest to write a message to mum & family, you could also get a photo of Mum with each guest to stick next to their message.
Gifts:
Guests will want to bring a gift for Mum and the baby – if there are specific things that you need you can arrange gift lists, alternatively Babycakes range of Baby Gift Baskets and Nappy Cakes which are the perfect Baby Shower gift.
Nanny:
If friends, family and colleagues have children/babies to and you would like them to attend to – why not hire a nanny/babysitter to look after the children?
Sprinkles:
Why not celebrate the birth afterwards, or celebrate a second, third or fourth baby or adoption with a Baby Sprinkle Party or Welcome Party? These can be the same as above or less formal – some Mum’s feel they don’t need gifts the next time around so why not ask them to donate to a charity if they feel they would like to do something? You could also invite Dad’s to Sprinkle parties.
